{"apiVersion":"1.0","identifier":"CVE-2026-72816","description":"go-chi/chi through 5.2.1 contains an IP spoofing vulnerability in the RealIP middleware (middleware/realip.go). The realIP() function reads client-controlled headers (True-Client-IP, X-Real-IP, and X-Forwarded-For) and overwrites r.RemoteAddr without verifying that the request originated from a trusted proxy. Attackers can supply arbitrary IP addresses in these headers to bypass IP-based access controls, evade rate limiting and geo-IP restrictions, and pollute audit logs. Fixed in 5.3.0.","publishedAt":"2026-08-14T12:16:44","lastModifiedAt":"2026-08-14T16:16:59","sourceUrl":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-72816","cvssScore":6.5,"cvssVector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","epssProbability":0.00219,"riskScore":0.66,"affectedProduct":"chi","affectedVersions":"<=5.2.1","vulnerabilityType":"Library","operatingSystems":[],"links":{"self":"https://www.redsauce.net/api/cves/CVE-2026-72816","webPages":{"es":"https://www.redsauce.net/es/cves/CVE-2026-72816","en":"https://www.redsauce.net/en/cves/CVE-2026-72816","fr":"https://www.redsauce.net/fr/cves/CVE-2026-72816","pt":"https://www.redsauce.net/pt/cves/CVE-2026-72816","de":"https://www.redsauce.net/de/cves/CVE-2026-72816","sk":"https://www.redsauce.net/sk/cves/CVE-2026-72816","el":"https://www.redsauce.net/el/cves/CVE-2026-72816"},"source":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-72816"}}
